Networking Tips from your Austin Apartments

  |     |   Uncategorized

If you’re like most residents of our community of apartments in East Austin, you probably started networking like crazy during your senior year of college. Maybe you even used a networking event to land the job you have now. In college, we hear about how important it is to expand your network by making new connections. However, we don’t hear that advice as often once we graduate despite the fact that networking is still the best way to find new opportunities for your career.

In the blog post below, we’ll be telling our residents about some tips that they can use to expand their professional network in 2019. Whatever goals you have for your career, networking is probably one of the best ways to get you one step closer to achieving those goals. The more networking connections you have, the more easily you’ll be able to leverage those connections to find new opportunities for yourself.

Without further ado, let’s jump right in to this week’s blog post! Oh, and when you’re done reading through this week’s blog, please feel free to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of Austin apartments.

Ditch the prepared pitch

Whether you’re networking on behalf of your company or for your own gain, it’s vital that you come off as authentic. That means avoiding the canned speech that you practiced in the mirror before heading off to the networking event. You’re going to meet a lot of people at every networking event, and you don’t want to tell each one the same story about who you are and where you’re headed. Instead, treat every interaction as a new opportunity to be authentic and original.

Leverage the power of LinkedIn

If you really want to go all-in on expanding your professional network in 2019, you’re going to have to become a LinkedIn wizard. LinkedIn will help you find people who have the jobs you want at the companies you want to work for. When you find these people, reach out to them and see if they’d be willing to sit down with you for an informational interview. Avoid doing everything over email, as easy as it might be. The more in-person meetings you have, the more authentic connections you’ll make.
